The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Essay

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as SNAP, originates from the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933. It was established in the Great Depression era as the Federal Surplus Relief Corporation when crop prices fell drastically and farms were struggling to deal with the excess supply. The Federal government bought the surplus as discounted prices and distributed them to hunger relief agencies. In 1939 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal program, the Food Stamp Plan was created by Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace to formalize the food distribution efforts. Although this initial program ceased in 1943 because of a decrease in the number of people living in poverty, it was reintroduced in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy through a food stamp pilot program. In 1964, the Food Stamp Act was passed by President Lyndon Johnson. This program required the purchase of â€Å"stamps† based on the participant’s income level to permit the purchase of low-cost nutritional food. After a program revision in 1977 which ended the requirement for participants to purchase stamps, a nutritional educational program called SNAP-Education was added to the food stamp program in 1981. This program allowed states to apply for matching funds from the Federal government to deliver nutrition education to eligible persons. Texting While Driving Free Essays

Driving around highway in Texas, I am seeing a lot banner of warning signboards accident. The number of people death in 2012 is over 200 people and the death toll will not stop measurements. So, why accidents can happens easily? There are a thousand of reasons that make accident happen, but I think the major reason is â€Å"be distracted when driving†. We will write a custom essay sample on Texting While Driving or any similar topic only for you Order Now Reading article called â€Å"Family hopes ban on texting while driving will be passed† by ODESSA AMERICAN, make me understand more about the reason that cause accident. Moreover, this article likes a report about the number of accident and its case. Tears drop in Teague family’s face when they recall the worst day, the day when their 22 years old son died because of a car accident on highway. The reason was â€Å"he was arguing with his wife† and he went out of control. On high ways, people have to drive very carefully because there are no traffic lights so all people are driving with the high speed; this is the main reason of â€Å"out of control†. To drive on the highways people have to be very focused and careful, but that 22 years old man did not, he † be distracted when driving†. This make me mark a question â€Å"If that day he did not argued with his wife, maybe he safe† †¦and If people don’t be distracted while driving or at least they drive with attention, the number of death will not increase . But â€Å"If† is the biggest word on the world. In my opinion using phone while driving is considered as a way to save time for those who are dynamic. However, this will be a major influence on the ability to control the steering wheel, as well as your visibility and can cause unpredictable consequences. Just 4 seconds to read the message or text message, you have lost focus on driving and can cause accidents to self and others. We cannot do all things at a time, we must learn to organize things in the logical order, the person you are texting message to can wait for you, but your live can not wait for you. I think that the number of traffic accidents will not reduce until the ban on texting while driving passed because text messaging requires visual, manual, and cognitive attention from the driver and if driver just focus on the phone, accident is a grossly result. I am strongly believed if law of using electronic device applied; the number of death will be decrease. I used to think texting while driving should be legal because an accident can happen many ways, but for all the reason I read on the internet, main cause is people spend too much time con concentrate on their phone and lost control, no matter how good someone’s multi-tasking skills may be, it is impossible to give complete attention to driving. Texting requires a person to look down at his or her phone and not at the road; so I think texting should be illegal, and that illegally is a legal permit for saving our life. If the law ban on texting will be applied, what’s come next? I think there are 2 different cases will be happened. First, if people admit and follow the law, no texting when driving, then it may not be a cause of accident any more. Second, if that law not accepted, in order to hide police . people will still text and drive. They will just hide it and are more likely to run off the road because they are holding their phone further down and their eyes are off the road longer. I think there is no conclusion for this topic, because its habit, if people care and want to save their life, they must have solution for using electronic driver when they are driving. To reduce the number of accident, people should try to pay attention on the road in order to control the wheel very well. Keep yourself fit, physically and mentally. Never drive if you are drowsy/drunken/tired. Try to be calm while driving, if that’s not possible, take a cab or the bus. I recognize the dangers, and try to do it as little as possible. However, there are still incidents that occur. One day, I was driving down highway 14, passing Wal-Mart, and received a text from my mother asking what time football practice was. I went to reply and took my attention away from driving. This immediately endangered myself, and anyone else in the car, with me. Due to my irresponsible action I also endanger driving that surround me while texting. I have no ability to respond to events as they occur around me on the road. Even if I may be able to text while driving and maintain control and crashing if someone around was to do something dumb, my ability to react safety is severely diminished. According to (Push to stop Texting While Driving) 45 percent of drivers between the ages 16 and 17 texting while driving and it is a problem that is growing. The reason for all that is younger people fell a need to be constant contact with other. They put these things before the safety of other on the road. The term Text Message is defined as a noun, it is an electronic message sent over a cellular network from one cell phone to another by typing words, often in shortened form as â€Å"l8t† for â€Å"late† on the phones numeric or QWERTY keypad. We will write a custom essay sample on Texting While Driving or any similar topic only for you Order Now The younger generations as well as the old are now using text messaging a lot and a lot of people know that it is an addicting activity. Text messaging is being used for many different things in today’s society, some things good and something’s bad. For example we use text messaging at our church in our choir to let the choir members know which colors to wear each Sunday. I honestly believe that text messaging has caused a lot of people to stop spelling out words. Text messaging in my opinion was designed to be a shorter and faster way of communication but in today’s society some people have put down the cell phone but have not started back writing there whole words. I say that to say text messaging also has an affect on peoples English in today’s society. By having an effect on peoples English that causes problems with the kids in school, because it is no secret that by fourth grade if not lower a lot of kids have cell phones and they have learned the activity of text messaging. As I stated before text messaging is a faster shorter way of communication which cause’s you to sometimes break down your words or spell them in ways that are shorter, with kids doing that sometimes it can get hooked to them and when there doing there school work they can misspell a lot of there words because in their head there still texting. This can cause kids to fail there classes due to simple mistakes from texting. This can be prevented though if parents control there kids texting and put a limit on it because if not texting can go a far way such as the term sexting, sexting is sending sexually explicit messages via cell phone or instant messenger. (About. com) you may say what does that have to do with the topic, I believe it has a lot to do with the topic because when you’re talking about texting that’s a big category. The young people in today’s society have taken texting to another level because there growing up and there body is going through different things and their emotions are raging. The best way I believe parents can talk to their kids about texting is to come to them in a way where your not judging them but also letting them know the consequences it could cause and give them time to talk also while you just listen. Sexting is one of the many ways texting can affect our life. Text messaging has become so convenient that people are now texting and driving at the same time which can be very dangerous. This has caused a lot of wrecks and police are really cracking down on this activity. Texting while driving laws have been put in place in some states studies show that Texting while driving laws prohibit the use of electronic devices to write, send or read messages while driving. I have known people to get tickets for texting and driving and have had to pay large fines. In this world today people drive so reckless and careless that your eyes should be on the road at all times when you’re driving. Texting while driving could cause your life or another driver’s life.
